The switch has been cleaned, surprising the amount of debris that had collected inside it, I now have the problem of two 20mm cable access points and nothing to put into them.

Ideally I need to reduce the size to suit the cable and at the same time direct the cable to the rear of the machine instead of hanging down under the switch, a small lathe would have been handy to make something but....

So a rummage in junk box number 21,431 and lo and behold a pair of 90 degree tap fittings, which luckily with a small bit of Dremmel work will screw nicely into the holes, test fitting a bit of old cable proves it's a nice fit without a severe bending and a double check for any sharp internal surfaces will be made, the cables will be pointing in the right direction and grommets will be squeezed in at both ends once fitted.

I won't do a final fit until the new cable arrives and I know for certain it is all a good fit with no chance of damage introducing a danger.

Glad its not just me my phone is full of cable terminations, data plates and various bits odd machines in bits.

In this case the two red and two black would not have helped but yes I wish I had a camera phone when I used to restore Brit bikes, even digital cameras were not on the go.

You got the bargain of a lifetime, very rare in that condition and even rarer with the quantity of tooling..and anyway's..I am probably making a mess myself, just a different mess so we are on a level footing.

I suppose by the time I am finished I will know the machine inside out, still won't have increased my skill at turning, at the rate I am going 2018 is looking promising

Have you got any Alu. It's great to start with. I did most of my thread learning on Alu. I can send you some chunks of round in a box if you want for the price of a stamp. Got more than enough kicking about to share.

Should get you started up mate.
Use the tube for internal threads and use the bigger solid for external ones to marry them up. It's how I taught myself and made some nice tank caps and pipe fittings.

I'll just decline the other requests lol. If I say I'm gonna keep em for you to learn on your new lathe I'm gonna do it mate. They are just off cuts I keep for practice myself but I'm happy to share a few once I build a few more up.

Internal and external threads

I hope you intend hanging around for a long time if you are waiting for me to get that good, it's a dark art I have not yet studied but know it has to be learnt to make good use of the machine.

I had better have a look at them round thingy's with teeth I suppose, see what I have and don't have....make plans etc

Don't be scared about threading, there is no magic to it. Hardest part is disengaging at the end of each pass. Internal threads are a bit more tricky as you often can't see the end but sometimes having the tool upside down and working the opposite side helps. If you can have a groove at the end of the thread it makes things easier also.

Metric threads may be more of an issue if it is an imperial screw as normally you can not disengage so you have to quickly unwind the X and stop the spindle at the same time then reverse, but even that is not too difficult to master depending on the lathe. Don't think ML10's have brakes so maybe a bit more tricky than others for metric threads?.

Steve don't be frightened of thread cutting.
I'd never touched a lathe untill I bought mine and within a week I had my first threads cut. Within two I was doing internal threads and making two threads fit.
The ml10 is perfect for it. Nice slow speeds. For the imperial threads you can use the thread dial and metric ones just reverse the lathe. I've done it both ways and it's up to the job no probs. Read my thread as there is all the advice you'll ever need in there from the guys helping me getting going.

Lathes have all sorts of uses before long youll wonder how you managed with out one. As for screw cutting its not quite as dark an art as some folks make out, just like tig welding, bit of guidance, bit of coaching, a few cock ups and youll be flying.
