I've got a trump card. Sold my CAT and gennie I was given last month but never spent the money. Said I'd use it for tools. Didn't specify work tools.Do you think you'll live to see Christmas?

@Parm my mistake. Primer tractol 816 topcoat Tekaloid 318.Tractol primer and topcoat.
Goes on lovely. Fills small casting defects and leaves a nice smooth finish. Some bits I painted a few months back faired well. Takes a few weeks to fully harden and seems to be very resistant to oils ect.
Surprisingly straight for its age. ML3
Don't know if I'll keep this one or sell it yet.
Would rather have the room for a mill but I'll make a loss. Lesson learned.

That was my first lathe, well not that exact one but rather a Drummond M Type made before Myford took over their production. It was knackered but still did a lot of good work on it.

I had the chance to buy something similar, a Grayson lathe. Trouble here is that old machinery is so thin on the ground that anything seems to command a premium. The resellers wanted $800 for the Grayson and the uni offered $500 for the Bantam, so I went with the latter. It's probably a bit advanced for me but I'll grow into it.
Shame myford cut down on manufacturing costs. Yours looks to have much better build quality. That said. Its got no wear to mention and runout is negligible. Sure I'll find a good home for it once it's been fettled. That was my first lathe, well not that exact one but rather a Drummond M Type made before Myford took over their production. The S&B has impressed me with build quality and design. Look forward to starting it up for the first time. Other than motor tests I haven't used it yet.
First coat of primer. Drying as fast as I brushed it on so decided to coat it now and flatten it next week. Second coat of primer should go on better now its sealed. Bit of filling needed too.
Insides had a quick paint. Not worried about a fine finish. Just wanted to tidy it up. View attachment 117009 View attachment 117010
Managed to grab a couple of hours. Only the bed left to prep. Thought it best to prime the head up straight away. View attachment 119605 View attachment 119609
