After a week just feeling too rough to do anything, this afternoon I had another go at my Park guitar amp.
Finally sussed it, input amplifier blown, dual amplifier chip. I proved it by robbing an identical ic from the reverb circuit. So now to find a replacement (ne5532 or 4558dd if anyone has one).

Bit of fun yesterday and over friday night.
No power tools, just old fashioned hand powered tools and coffee.
This is already on its way to its new home.
All it needed was a service and oil.
With a clossed in gear box, the grease can shift away from the places it is needed.
Easy to sort.
Bent springs can be teased back into shop on a former and re used.
This has had a hard life.
Hack saw removed the mushrooming. A hand cranked wet stone repaired the head and cutting edge.
Not perfect, but it will work.
A lot more of the donnations have be fixed/restored/cleaned.

Today (well yesterday) I fixed my compressor.
Old 3hp twin cylinder Ingersoll that just run and runs with next to no attention apart from the odd oil change.
It finally decided it needed a holiday and stopped working.
I have another 3hp compressor, but this one is remarkable quiet for a piston compressor so gets the most use.
A quick check showed that one of the contacts in the pressure switch was open circuit.
Took it apart and found that I could get the contacts out if I bent the connector tabs.
Gave the contacts a clean with very fine sand paper and put it back together again.
One of the contact tabs was a bit slack, but a dab of 5 min epoxy sorted that.
It runs, and hopefully will keep going for another 40 or so years.

This bilge pump was acquired by me the other day. I knew it had issues, I used that to get a 10% discount on it.
In bits. The last owner had used, or tried to use pipe wrenches to undo the caps. This meant I had to use needle files to repair the damage.
Dull job, but had to be done.
Warming the body with a blow torch expanded the brass enough for a gentle force had the caps off.
The details on the top cap allowed me to find and contact the manufacture. This led to them sending out "New" Old stock out to me.
Repaired, polished and mounted to a bit of pine.
As the brass cleaning gear was out.

This fantastic plane came my way in a large donnations of tools.
It has suffered from being in a damp box.
De rusted with wire wool and small wire brushes.
Thne the plane was warmed over a hot plate. Then wax/oil was applied to all the parts.

Not restored, but more of preserved, I need more time to do a real strip and repaint on this. But it will not get any worse.
It was given a good wash with hot water and washing powder, given a goos scrubbing as well.
Then it was dried on a hot plate.
The wick was rotten, so I made a new one.
When it was nice an warm, wax/oil mix was applied and worked into all the joints.
Even finished this as well.
New washers and seals as well.

Finished replacing the inner and outer right hand wings this morning, the whole front end is held on with 2 screws, 7 self tappers and a couple of plastic clips!

The chim;ey was missing, the retaining arms were bent.
The wicks were modern ones.
The shade is original and so is the finish of the metal.
This was the chimley I got gor it. As per the model details.
Shame I amde a mistake and read the number as an English one, not as it is.
An American lamp.
The shade ring was repaired, the broken joints re soldered and the metal polished.
New correct wicks were made and fitted.
First light with the chimley. A nice even flame, lots of light.
Finished.

A week ago today I "fixed" my mates Mk7 transit.
He had taken it to an injection specialist who told him he needed a 4 new injectors.
Only problem was they were on back order.
Don't really do fords but as the injectors were scrap I said I would have a look.
He has had it from new and its now got 1/4 million miles on it.
The engine sounded like a bag of spanners and knocking like a mad thing.
I was a bit surprised “all” the injectors went bad at the same time.
I got no fault codes on the reader I have.
All the injectors measured the same resistance with a funny pulse in the reading.
I took them out and thought it would be worth seeing if the nozzles were clear.
Scribed a line to put the nozzle back to the same place and stripped them down.
Clamped the injectors in the vice with a couple of steel offcuts.
Then screwed the nozzles off , injected a squirt of brake cleaner down the nozzles and everything looked clear.
Checked everything else I could think of and found one needle had rubbed the coating off. All the rest were perfect.
He was able to get one new injector from somewhere else.
So I checked the resistance of the new injector and it read the same as the rest so put them together and installed them with new washers and seals in the order they came out.
The new injector was on cylinder 3..
Started it up and knock is gone and it drives just fine.
If it keeps going is anyone’s guess but here’s hoping and one week in it been running great.

Well, if we are 66.6% done, we might as well go to the end.
This one drew blood.
But not to worry. It wasn't mine.
Took a bit of oil to free it up.
A mix of Old oil, paraffin and fuel oil had it it in bits.
Boiling the wick holders in Citric acid, purley for the speed.
Cleaned with wire wool, a custom made wick.
BLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we carried on(screaming) I blame the coffee. Dave blamed the spiders.
Old oil lamp.
The style says new, it had little wear and tear. But the glass and wicj holder said old.
If you look at the flame it is in 2 parts, upper and lower.
The lower is correct. The upper is the Pop of a flame gassing off. It makes a pop pop noise as it does. This means it is running hot and the fuel is bering heated into a gas state.
It will blow the glass.
You can see how hot it was getting, by the dark mark on the burner mouth.
A new wick, dumping the modern lamp oil and running it of paraffin cured the hot running.
New friction tape on the glass, acts as a seal as well.

One of the daily runners is a nasty old Astra G 1.6, bought it 7 years ago for £500 with 40K on the clock, the aim always has been to spend as little as possible on the hateful car, its mot time time very soon and the rubbish pattern part exhaust has just about given up the ghost so a rummage in my stores and weve got a nice genuine GM mid section but for a 2.0D and its a bigger bore which means horsepoweeeer, with a reducer at the front to go from 50mm OD to 54mm ID were sorted and a back box for a Astra F 1.8 which has all the hangers in the right place but needs a flange to join it, quick bit of 5mm plate grindy action and a bit of tube and we should be tickety boo!
If the weldering comes out ok I might put a picture up, if it doesnt I wont!!

The thing about oil lamps and storm lanterns, they need time to cool down and the paint to cure.
Se we did more jobs.
This Ex MOD Test tune came my way a few weeks ago.
But I lost it in the workshop.
New battery, new fuse, a set up and a polish and it was good to go.
Shame I don't know who Smuge was and why he was a self abuser. But those words were soon lost to history.
Daft REME life forms.
All done and working, tested it as well. Daves car still has points. Mk1 Astra.
Dave was given a free hand on the following items.
Here is the results.
The head was loose on te shaft, head was rusting and the shaft was too rough to be used.
Sanded, cool flame to stain the wood and a lot of work with wire brushes to clean the head.
This was a fun restore, no power tools, but a raid of the scrap bin
Worm had eaten the handle wedge. But nowt else.
Hush, I know.
New brass blade, 24 coats of french polish and 4 coats of Lavender fed Bee's wax.
Se we did more jobs.
