Oh well then. it will rust in patches.
The acid from the horse shoes, unless 100% cleaned out will leach through.
You will get a good effect, just takes longer.

But with a good metal paint on top it should stop it.
They joys of old horse shoes. But wash them in hot soapy water will stop it.

i should have washed them i skipped that part! i did clan them with brake cleanner though

Hot Soupy water and a wire brush.
You have to remove all muck, grass and mud.
Dry well, they will get a rust coating very fast.

Then grind and weld.
If you use gas to heat some shoes watch out for creep. You heat it up, bend it to shape and position. Great you think.
Then the bugger moves back a bit or a lot.

Horse shoes are not all the same, some are soft some are very hard.
Even shoes from the same horse could be 4 different grades and size. That's the joy of using them, you never know what you will get.

Go hot on the rods.
Smack them with a hammer, best way, as they look like they welded. Thy move and crack.

Cut some 16mm stainless for the first time on the CNC plasma today. I wasn't sure if it would pierce ok or not as the max pierce for my Opticut 65 is 16mm in steel so wasn't sure how stainless would be.
Seemed to work ok although I think it was pushing it.
Welded the stainless discs (170mm dia) to bits of 2" dia shaft then turned them to clean up the outer dia to 168mm then reduced 8mm length down to 154mm to fit inside some 6" Sch40 NB pipe. Tomorrow I hope to get a hand to lift the pipe onto my bandsaw to chop to length then get the ends I made today welded into it.

Never got much done today as I got a visit from a friend from Glasgow. Good thing was he was able to give me a lift onto the bandsaw with the sch40 pipe so I could cut to length. I left it in the saw so I could weld the ends on that I made yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow I will make more progress and get it ready for fitting to the boat on Thursday.

Ok, compared to what others can weld and turn up, this is small fry.

It is a charcoal and coke burner. It is to allow me to access how my home made stuff burns.
1/2 a fire extinguisher, some scrap off cuts and coffee.

It needs to be burnt out to remove the lining and the paint, one good fire will sort that out.

Started on the side plates for the rollers but had to abandon the roller as the boat it is for had lost the prop nut and almost his prop. He was just coming into the pier and when he came astern he heard a bang and the boat kept going ahead and he smacked into the pier, luckily the boat does not seem to be damaged even though the stones on the pier must have moved as the road behind has a raised lump in the tar
Anyway got the measurements of the thread, a bit weird as they are 48mm x 3mm metric fine and the shaft is 2 3/4".
Found a lump of material, chucked it in the manual lathe and bored it then threaded it then put in the Chiron and cut the hex, 3" across flats to give an idea of scale.

i broke the toolstation one so i need to go back and try again if this breaks ill give up i have a 6' bar to go through the T if need be
