Time must fly by up here, my container was new about 10 years ago and it certainly has more than 1mm of rust in places
Granted it is right by the sea and is constantly getting covered in spray and also often waves when the weather is a bit stormy.

I presume you'd have to chip off the loose scale & measure the thickness to verify there quote, & I can't remember if they quoted on an inland locations or not.alledgedly CORTEN was a British development yet somehow the yanks own the patent.

what rods/wire do you use to weld corten, does it rust at the same rate?

i only use my regular m/s,but you can get coten wire @ a price.
anyway i can't tell the difference.

Finished the heavier duty wheeled base for my EWM, made and rope guide for a Yachts pulley (bit rough but....) and made an extension arm and mounting base for the 10M Cheetah Cats Auto Pilot Rudder Indicator. I had to make the extension arm because I am having to convert the linear motion of the outboards steering rods to rotary motion at the rudder indicator.
Now I am waiting on 60m of 3" x 3" x1/4" 6082 angle and 6 sheets of 5083 so that I can get on with making a shooting table for the Cheetah Cat and also some 50mm and 16mm Dia stainless so I can make the probe housings I periodically make for a NDT company. I am thinking of doing a bit of tidying while I wait, ok just thought about it, hate tidying, will find something else to do

Oh also made a plate for the hydraulic power packs ignition switch, E-Stop and meter.

Found enough 16mm dia stainless to chop up into 70mm long lengths to make the handles for the probe housings. Got the ends rounded and went to start threading the other ends M12 but couldn't get the torx screw out of the holder so that I could replace the insert. Ended up having to smash the insert that was in the holder to get the screw out and because of that delay I only had enough time to thread half of the handles.
Anyway pic of the ends after being rounded and a quick poor quality vid of both the rounding operation and the threading op.

Good video, how do you index the parts for the second operation? Does the chuck have a back stop or is there a position sensor on the tool holder?

The last part of the operation positions the tool at Z zero and once I have removed the finished part and placed the next one in, I wind in on the X and then pull the part out to touch the tool and then tighten the collet chuck.

Well today I had a split coupling waiting for me when I arrived at the workshop, the bolts had been loose and elongated the holes. Shoved some soft jaws on the Chirons vice and machined them to hold the coupling then machined 4 new holes 45 degrees out from the originals. Then chucked a bit of 45mm Dia steel in the lathe and turned down to 1 1/2" so that I could mount the coupling for truing up the face.

Then I finished off the probe handles that I started yesterday.

Whilst doing them I had a skipper come in saying he was about to be brought out the water and could I go and look. Seems the bellows on the stern drive had a hole and had been letting water in and the UJ exploded taking the casing of the gimble with it, so had to go and remove that and see what was needed for replacement, will be reassembling tomorrow.

Once I had that done I got time to do the first op on the delrin section of the probe housings.

Finished this one off today, its a frame for a mobile bar, made from 50 x 50 x 2 erw and some angle, mostly migged, the whole thing will be clad in timber by the customer, the final effect will be to make it look as if drinks are being served over a stack of old wood, kind of rustic C&W style, the canopy removes for transport it just drops in a couple of simple shs sockets and held in place with thumbscrews,
At 2.5 mtrs long and 2m high its bigger than the picture makes it look.

Repairing a cast iron rainwater hopper,made a new wall mounting lug where the original was broken off & lost.
Used pre-heat & pure nickel rod,about 100 amps.
