Very nice plinth, Was the mould silicone?, And how many castings can be made from the same mould?

Thanks Gordon. only use best quality silicone, dont like the mal formed stuff a lot sell, my thoughts being if you are going to make the mix,fill the mould,de mould,stack,dry,un stack,transport,sell(you physically lift each piece 10 times by the time its sold!) and do it every day the quality of the casting starts with the quality of the mould,why fill a rubbish mould you then have to fettle,paint /stain to cover up the ugliness of it.......to give an idea costs of materials alone for that mould were just over £300, so yes you have to sell a lot just to reach break even.
as for longevity really depends , if its a good seller and worked daily I expect to last maybe 3 years, but you have to balance out the cost for the mould sitting next to it which cost just as much but because its "out of fashion" this year you might only sell a few so dont even break even on costs...there is no way of knowing what people "like" from one year to the next.
Welding is so much easier physically !

Thanks for the reply, My thinking exactly, Quality shows through, Just like lots of cheap far east Welders,compressors,generators etc. They put lots of effort into trying to make he item look good, and mess up on the parts used or internal manufacture, We know it must be profitable for them But for a little extra they could make a decent product that could earn a decent reputation instead of selling and having them breakdown, Never to be bought by that customer again, The world is a big place and the buyers keep coming and hoping that the cheap machine that they have just bought will be the one in a thousand that performs OK.

I notice you are still using the same mesh welded in the treads. Did you find a better alternative , or are you using up stock ?

Some years ago ,my son in law, now a MAMIL (middle aged man in Lycra) then not so middle aged but a very keen and competitive road racer, thought that he'd start a cycle business, specialising in the top end of the market but also stocking bread and butter Halford's competitors.
Investigations soon revealed the benefits of scale that importers were enjoying and a scale of purchase he couldn't hope to match
I can't remember how many years ago this was now (maybe 10?) but China were exporting at ex factory prices of something like £15 a bike.

On the same thing, A chap in my old archery club was involved in the building of those big ships that can jack itself up on six legs for the installation/repair of off-shore wind turbines, And he spent a lot of time in China where the work was being carried out, I don't know any more than him telling me that he and his friend brought a shipping container full of new bikes from China to the UK, Said the had paid buttons for them,

A repair job i did at a friends garage today. It was some part off a Lexus front brake. Something was seized and the mechanic was trying to knock it off with a hammer, he took one of the mounting lugs off. A replacement was hugely expensive and not readily available. The plant i used was one of the German stahlwerk ones, cheap, but hey it worked.

Very colourful,She will be delighted, How about welding the "leaf" horseshoes on horizontal and use them to hold plant-pots with some real flowers?

Had to fit this to passify the wife before i head off again..
Main problem i had was drilling the porcelain tiles...mega hard. Although the hardibaker was tough stuff..
I used sticks like sh*t on the 15mm plastic pipe clips......what a waste of time. Just fell off.
Anyone got a better adhesive for plastic to porcelain as drilling would end up expensive...

looks good mate but i would get some decent tile bits and drill and plug the pipe clips best way noting sticks to the glaze unless u rough it first with a small cutting disc then stick the clips on
I did manage to get an 8 x 4 sheet of 2.5 to finish my wifes electric scooter garage...so more noise to annoy the neighbours in the morning...
Paid 48 quid inc vat if anyone is interested. Not sure if thats good or bad.
