Well haven't done this actually today, but work in progress


31' Noosa Cat full paint job. This is the last time I hope to be sanding the colour for the final top coat. The boat was white and the owner wants it blue. He wants it blue I paint it blue.

The stern view, this boat is powered with two Yammi outboards 225 4 stroke so we have removed the motor mounts

It looked a bit doggy behind the motor mounts so it was good that they were removed. What was found when I blasted them, was the bottom corroded out with through holes in several places. Motor mounts as they are now.

These motor mounts are 8mm bottoms so new bottoms welded in and new front gussets either side of where the motor sits. These motor mounts were never initially painted and from the corrosion the wrong antifoul was used and corroded the alli over time. So lets hope painting tomorrow goes OK without any further problems

Was up finishing off the boat trailer that I started a few weeks back. Got the stabiliser bars welded up and bolted in place.

Also extended the guide pole sockets fore and aft by 300mm per side.

Now it is ready for all of the bits I have done to be painted but that is not my job, I detest painting, even more so than welding Galvi steel

Got the bracket for the forward roller welded in place and the roller made.

So that was all the outside welding done so the boat was put back in the water. Would have preferred it to stay up the slip a few more days but there was a bigger boat on the cradle in front and it is being put in the water first thing tomorrow so there was no choice

Also had an emergency job, boat had lost its propeller, they were lucky that it happened as they were just coming alongside the pier so at low water they managed to find the prop in the mud. The nut however wass impossible to find so I had to make a new one. Only had a rectangular chunk so pressed it against the 3 Jaw with the tailstock and took light cuts to round it off a bit.

Turned it round and gripped in the chuck and turned down to the max dimensions of the hex.

Bored and tapped it 1inch BSF.

Transferred to the Chiron to make the hex.

Then finally back in the lathe and parted it off.

Lovely job. That happened over here a few years back would you believe, off a roro ferry. They dredged the channel and recovered it!

No not scroll making but thats given me an idea for another use for it.

Its used with a hydraulic press

Its a jig for holding hubs for pressing out bearings. Place a parallel between the hub and big plate. Then use the bolts and smaller plate to support the hub and remove the parallel. Use it instead of just stacking bits of metal together to try and get the hub level for pressing

Presume a frame for the car sitting on so you can remove most parts but still have it mobile?

i needed to remove the throttle linkage joining a couple of SU carbs but the only way to do it is to remove one carb to get it out.
this always results in needing new gaskets so i thought it was high time i made a splittable linkage so the carbs can stay in position.

Dab of loctite will do it.
