looks good- exhaust porn, I am getting meself a little backpurge system together, they don't do it round here and you can't get the take offs to run a purge line, so I got a dispo bottle reg from weldequip(only ones that are any good) a bit o gas hose and I will use a diposable bottle to purge, or I was going to, the DIY shed have stopped stocking dispo Argon bottles now, so I'll have to see if the argon mix is any use unless I can track down dispo Argon bottles somewhere.
I did a very short test with my MIG on some stainless, then welded up an exhaust for a tractor ( a farmers one-not a harley) and it went ok so its summat I will bear in mind for any future stuff.
That was using the standard gas mix for m/s MIG. I can get that in dispo bottles so I might backpurge and MIG some stuff to see what results I get.

I'll only use it if and when I do an exhaust again, and I might MIG it, grind em down and then wrap it. I have found that the problem with dispo bottles is down to the crap tap you buy-I refuse to call it a regulator-its just an on off tap.
I got this http://www.weldequip.com/disposable-regulator.htm which works!! and this http://www.weldequip.com/gas-flow-tester.htm and here are the dispo bottles I get for odd jobs over here when the big bottle is too big to lug about,
the one in the photo is bashed about because itsa MT one that might be turned into an oil bag for a softail harley, as you can see, they are a bit bigger than normal dispo bottles.



I just did a small job on an SS zorst, had to use me MIG and one of the Ar/CO2 mix bottles pictured. It was not bad, I only had a small test piece of SS to test me settings, so bead was a bit high for my taste, but I ground it down on the actual job to see how it had gone and it was ok. Test piece is here, front n back-sorry about bad pics, the pen on the back was ok, nice n flat and no sugary smeg, obviously no BP was available, I'll be trying the MIG for SS again later.
I'll be trying MIG with backpurge to see what happens.

That polishing is ace, I had my Termis polished for my 916, getting a finish like that was beyond me, so I had it done by a bloke with the proper kit and experience. Parts of the system took on the rainbow colours you get.
I can't get the Y sections out here, and UK ones do not fit French bottles, so I will have to jury rig summat for BP, I don't mind that, quite like overcoming the hurdles and getting the job done.

worriz it? well, it might be a tool rack, or I might cut it in half to be a jig for holding stuff on my bench. Pretty expensive one, it was part of a dovetail jig, had it lying round for years, I wanted to try a fillet weld in ali so sid it, it got tigged, need to practice, so it will be getting cut and more tabs welded on for more practice.

Yeah if I were you that's what I'd do, just make something up, even if I had to chop up a French and UK fittings and braze them together

Would it be safe, or even possible, to get a small tank that can be refilled from a full sized tank (Filled to a lower pressure) and take that to jobs? BOC make a small tank that can be easily carried around, you can't refill it yourself though.

I am looking at a new small bottle with integral reg set that has just come on the market from air liquide, I'll use one of those if I continue to lug my kit about. For the BP, we have done a fair few zorsts with a WP9V and lift TIG no BP rig, because :

A, we had never heard of it
B, when we did, folks we spoke said they don't do it, and if the zorsts aint broke anyway, why blow xpensive gas up em?

But, I don't go by what folks say, I want to see for mesen, so I am just going to dip a toe in the water on the BP front, I don't do enuf zorsts now to warrant serious investment,I think one of the benefits of BP may be that the actual welding on the outside goes nicer than without it, so if BP will improve my normal pigeon deposits on SS I'll get more serious about it

Snells!! oh yes, I have been a buyer and hangaround their PROPER MOTORCYCLE DEALERSHIP , my regiment was based in Aldershot, so Snells relieved me of quite a few quid, and you might have polished one of my zorsts-900SS belt drive.
Saturday mornng was often ride to Alton, drop of the dhobi (washing) in the Laundrette, bacon buttie n brew at Alton Caff, then mooch n drool in Snellies. If I had a duke, there are only two dealers I'd go to, Snells or CMW down in Chichester.
I'll be pokin me nose in Snells soon, as I am riding over on the 29th, brew at Alton caff, and mooch in Snells obligatory!

Yes, fired a few rounds down Longmoore, had 900SS (Bevel) 900SS (Belt), 916, 748, 748SP, S4 Monster. 70mm system? -hooligan! christ, I'd like to hear tha, 60mm was the cannon when I last had dukes.
Of all I preferred the 748s, the smaller capacity is much more of a buzz, the SP was .
2,600 ouch, is that the Ti system?
I had a go on the 999 when it came out, found it easier to ride than the 916 based series, but it was too fast for my brain, superb bit of kit, you can't explain why dukes are special to someone thats never owned one.

Agree, hence why out of the modern X98 series bikes I choose the 848, 130bhp is perfect power for the B roads, very involving and special over say my Blade Yeah 70mm! its BIG, 1199 is even bigger, Ti...lol No thats for the stainless system that comes like this:-

Still has the smoke from the mig! and yes, £1345.00 for just the slip on cans! Then if your fussy £££ to have them polished!

Today I welded 6" aluminium water pipes, then I welded 4" and 6" steel pipe.
I also ordered a new rotator as the one I was using today decided it didn't want to turn long, heavy pipes as it had grown accustomed to lighter work, so I nipped back to the client doing the ally pipes and sold it to him.
I've got a Rotostar 3 coming tomorrow as a replacement, it's nice when things just fall into place like that.
