Way back in the early 70s I was working on a Fiat 600, a 4 cylinder ,water cooled , bigger version of the 500. Took the head off and found what looked like machined vertical grooves , one in each of the 4 cylinders . On removing the sump ,pistons and con rods one gudgeon pin circlip was missing, they had never been installed when the engine was built in the factory. It was reassembled with new circlips gaskets etc and was still running fine years later
