Handy 3d prints for the workshop

The prints for the base plate turned out OK as you can see in th hot off the plate picture . Was the big hole in the middle supposed to be justified to one end ? They fettled up nicely with a scalpel but could do with a fine sanding on the fettled edge where the five layer raft was . The final layer finish is reasonable with a few fine fish bones in the final layer , despite me leveling the sliced item to the print bed twice before putting it on a memory card for printing . It runs through all four prints in exactly the same places .

You could...
1) Edit the sketch (the nicest solution IMO)
2) Use the move command to move a feature

If this is something that you need to tweak during prototyping then it would be far better to configure parameters in your sketch which position/dimension the slot and then just edit those

Well sort of prototyping.
I have been using swami's adaptation of screwdrivers holder.
I had not noticed he had made it easy to move the tab up and down by the use of a sketch definition.

I did not have a lot of time between babysitting sorting the wife and grafting on the squares this weekend. But for some reason the initial print cut fine for a couple of thousand and then started to miss the membrane.
This did not allow me to return cutter to the start and slowed things down a lot.

So I printed a new one once I had reduced the distance from end to tab to 22mm and it cuts a test again.

I did manage to add a know to an alternative part so it was easier to drag left and right.....but its printed on the wrong axis for strength.

I will try and make a knob fit at 45 or around there so I am actually pushing the knob in compression .

I was quite chuffed I managed to adapt both parts on my own in the end.

Swarmi's (John howard) designs are fantastic as they allow adaptations and alterations whilst showing you HOW it should be done.

not sure on your setup, back then I was in my (cold) office at work which might have been the problem

I came to the party late as it looks like you are sorted now. Just shout if anything goes wrong and you still need parts printing But it looks like Dapph has you all sorted

Yes...ABS really requires a confined printing enclosure as it hates draughts.

I still get cracking despite a Creality enclosure and getting a nice fug up before printing.

I used to run the bed heater for half an hour before I started printing to warm the enclosure up a bit, really seemed to help

" ME 2 " , the printer enclosure is in the single spare bed room , enclosure 20 mm construction ply for sides two thicknesses for the top and three for the base ...on which I have set an end of line 50 p Schreiber formica covered shelf ( all screwed & glued to bprvent any warping ) The temp pretty is even at 21 oC or more C within the bungalow most of the year but not on a minus six frosty night as of a couple of days ago . So I had to put the two wired in parallel internally ( batonfittings ) mounted 14 watt LED bulbs on for an hour to do a partial ambient warm up to 23.5 oC .. Bed then heats automatically once you put the memory card in and checked the parameters then way it goes doing the bed levelling check & printing on the raft . I print with the Perspex door in place once a full five layer raft has been laid down.

I've decided to do a section attack in the double bed tonight ( Well it's almost my 71 st birthday anyway ) and let the printer run over night in the back bedroom where I usually stay because of spinal injuries .

The printer display screen is indicating the prints for two of the main mounts @ 70 % infill will be 27.3 hrs . ... For a later project after long roundtuit list is cleared , perhaps casting in aluminium using the 230 oC filament shell as a lost wax casting medium ... the shell production may be able to be done reasonably in four or five hours or so at 30 % infil or less .... I have the means & metal for this sort of casting ...... anybody any thoughts on this?

I've seen quite a few writeups on lost PLA, they mostly seem to go for *very* low infill and minimal shell, that way the investment won't get cracked by the pattern expanding on bakeout, and I've seen a few who have used solvents instead of heat - not sure that works any better though! Have a look at:

It's a doodah that fits a thingamy jig when you turn the what's-a-ma-callit .

I think this probably belongs in this thread: my very first 3D print that wasn't a calibration / printer test thing: a screw sorting tool. I was really pleased that the colour change worked for the top couple of layers.

The hole for the M10 nut was undersize though: I had to file the nut down from 17 mm AF to 16 mm AF to get it to fit. I'm not sure why the designer bothered with M7 either...

I tend to build up big piles of screws "to be put away at some point" so this will be useful when I have the occasional blitz of the pile and file everything away where it belongs.

Redid the design of my spanner rack as u bought longer spanners for 6, 7, 9 and 9mm

Plus I could do it as a single piece as I now have a bigger printer
